  • Structure and content

Exchange students must have a total of at least 30 ECTS per semester.

As an exchange student, you may choose courses from our International Course Catalogue from the link below. Courses have been arranged in course area order:

You must have a total of at least 30 ECTS credits per semester (a maximum of 35 ECTS credits). A typical exchange student programme consists of 3-4 courses and a project of between 5 and 15 ECTS credits.

We recommend that you also take a course in English unless you are a native English speaker. English is taught on various levels, and all exchange students will be tested and placed in the appropriate course.

You are welcome to choose courses across study programmes, but please double-check with the timetables, as some courses take place at the same time.

If you can’t find a course with the subject matter you want, please contact our International coordinators:

    Katrine Steenbach
    E: katr@via.dk (academic contents)

    or

    Hanne Miller
    E: hami@via.dk (application procedure).

They will help you find the right course combination to fit your individual profile.

    Project work

We recommend that all exchange students do a project. Project work is a way of incorporating real-life contexts into the study programmes. Typically, students work in teams of 2-4 on a problem that they would like to analyse and solve - sometimes in cooperation with a company.

Staff from the faculties will assist students in forming teams and finding possible ideas for projects. All teams will be assigned one or more supervisors. These supervisors will guide students through their project work.

    Evaluation and exams

Your learning outcome will be assessed through in-course assignments, tests, presentations and examinations.

Assessments are based on the following types of examinations:

    • Written or oral examinations
    • In-class tests
    • Oral examination with a project report, and an oral group presentation as the basis of an individual exami-nation
    • Approval of participation in tuition activities according to criteria stipulated in the course description
    • Combinations of the above.

Examinations are organized as individual tests assessed by external or internal examiners. For external ex-aminations, an external examiner appointed by the Danish Ministry of Education will be called in. For internal examinations, the assessment will be done by lecturers appointed by VIA University College.

More information about examinations is contained in the course description.

  • Enrolment

We ensure that you receive credit at your home university for courses you complete successfully at VIA.

VIA University College expects international students taking part of their degree course at VIA University College to have already completed part of their degree course at their home university. In most cases, this means the first two years of a B.Sc.

We work in close cooperation with the students' home universities. This collaboration is to ensure the student receives credit at his or her home university for each course successfully completed at VIA University College.

    A Danish bachelor’s degree

Students who have completed 2 years = 120 ECTS of study at their home university are permitted to attend the exchange transfer programme at Department of Civil Engineering and be awarded a Danish bachelor degree upon completion of internship and 1 year = 60 ECTS of study in VIA University College.

The internship must have a duration of at least 20 weeks awarding a full 30 ECTS. The 1 year of study must award 60 ECTS equivalent for a total of 90 ECTS.

As documentation, we accept confirmation of a B2 level from your home institution or one of the following internationally recognised language tests: TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS or the Cambridge ESOL test. For more information, please see:
