VIA University College is this year’s most entrepreneurial educational institution

VIA wins price for being an entrepreneurial educational institution
Thursday 22 May, the Foundation for Entrepreneurship – Young Enterprise awarded VIA the title: Denmark’s most entrepreneurial educational institution.

VIA was selected based on a competition between university colleges and business academies from all over the country. In their basis for awarding VIA the title, the Foundation for Entrepreneurship – Young Enterprise emphasized VIA’s ability to get the students to think and work entrepreneurially:

”VIA qualifies their students to develop business ideas and test them in real life. VIA has created a culture within the classroom which fosters entrepreneurship, innovation and initiative”. The award is the culmination of several years of work within entrepreneurship, which VIA has worked with determinedly and strategically. The overall purpose has been to qualify the students to work entrepreneurially within a company or to be an entrepreneur themselves.

The students must think in new ways

Project Manager of ‘Entrepreneurship in VIA’s programmes’, Erik Løvgren Brejner, is pleased with the title as Denmark’s most entrepreneurial educational institution:

“We have demonstrated that a widely embedded basis within our lecturers, external partners, Danish and international students can create a strong and sustainable foundation for establishing a development and action oriented mindset”, Erik Løvgren explains and continues:

“The students are both influenced to think in new ways and challenge the existing ways of thinking in their daily teaching. But VIA has also provided the students with a wide range of optional offers where they can get the tools to think and act ’out of the box’”.

We have succeeded in implementing entrepreneurship

Director of Research and Development at VIA, Jonna Pedersen, sees many exciting possibilities as the work within entrepreneurship and innovation has become truly accepted in terms of developing the students’ competences:

”We have succeeded in implementing entrepreneurship in a broad perspective within all our study programmes. This qualifies our students to make a difference either when working as entrepreneurs or when developing business ideas within existing companies”, Jonna Pedersen explains and concludes:

”The Foundation for Entrepreneurship has based the award on the argument that VIA is contributing in the work to generate growth and development within our region. And it is exactly our goal that our students should help make a difference”.

’MadRouletten’ wins the category

VIA University College was not ’only’ awarded the title as this year’s most entrepreneurial educational institution at the Danish Championship in Entrepreneurship held at ‘Børssalen’ in Copenhagen on 22 May. 12 students groups participated in the Danish Championship in Entrepreneurship and five of them came from VIA.

One of the groups, ’MadRouletten’ (’The Food Roulette’), had developed a dinner concept where six strangers meet during dinner. Their concept was so convincing that they won the category ‘Society and People’.
