    Prerequisites: The applicants need to hold a bachelor degree in social work or health care. Also, bachelor students who are graduating shortly can be
    accepted in the course.

    Structure: The studies consist of online webinars, team work and individual tasks.

    Aging in Society: Cross‐cultural Perspetives

    The master-level online pilot course "Aging in Society: Cross-cultural Perspectives"15 ECTS runs from September 2019 to June 2020.

    Population aging is a global challenge and requires caregivers to obtain new kinds of professional competences.

    The master-level online pilot course "Aging in Society: Cross-cultural Perspectives" is 15 ECTS, which includes three individual themes worth 5 ECTS each.
    The total workload is 135 hours per theme (27 hours / 1 ECTS).

    The studies consist of online webinars, team work and individual tasks. Active participation is required.

    The course is organized by Feevale University (Universidade Feevale, Brazil), VIA University College (Denmark) and Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK, Finland).

    Description of the course

    The average life expectancy is increasing globally. Promoting healthy aging is based on the citizen's own wishes and goals and on the citizen's understanding of his/her situation, terms and conditions. It is important to focus on the quality of a person’s extra life years and on the diversity in the health behavior, health, quality of life and possibilities of living a meaningful everyday life of the aging population.

    The course consists of three themes:
    · Service Competence (Fall 2019)
    · Aging as Global Phenomenon (Spring 2020)
    · Client Involvement and Needs (Spring 2020)
    Every theme covers ethics, dignity, client-centered care as well research and development.

    Theme: Service Competence 5 ECTS

    Objectives
    The main objective of the theme is to give a cross-cultural perspective of aging as well as aging processes and
    services.

    The student is able to:
    - analyze and develop evidence-based and client-centered healthcare and social welfare services for older persons
    - use and utilize digital assistive technology as a part of healthcare and social welfare services
    - analyze different ways to provide healthcare and social welfare services
    - demonstrate internalized ethical knowledge as part of service competence.

    Working methods and scheduling
    Service Competence (5 ECTS) takes place from 17 September to 15 December 2019.
    The theme consists of online webinars, team work and individual tasks. Active participation is required. The
    study platform is Moodle. Online webinars are held using Zoom.

    Applications are to be sent via email. Deadline 2 September 2019

    Tuition fee: 9000 DKK

    Up to 5 VIA students from health sciences can take part free of charge. These 5 places will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Enrollment is open from the end of May to 2 September.
