Electrical Engineering

Offered by

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering: MA-MAT1 and MA-DYN1
Global Business Engineering: GB-ENBM2, GB-MAT3 and ME-DYN1

Main purpose

The main purpose is to gain knowledge about electrical systems, installations and to be able to calculate and select correct electric motors.

After the course, the student can expound:

• Simple DC and AC circuits (complex impedance, current and voltage, phasor analysis, load reduction and complex power)
• Single and three phase AC systems
• Single phased transformers
• Three phase systems and the power grid, power in balanced systems
• DC motors, types and speed control
• AC motors:
o Construction, temperature and isolation classes, thermal protection, contactors
o Start of motor, load types, start methods, start restrictions, DOL start, Y-D start, soft starters and frequency converters.

After the course, the student has acquired skills in:

• Analysis of DC and AC systems included in mechanical system
• Loads Analysis

The student has acquired competence in selecting and dimensioning the electrical part of mechanical drivelines.

Teaching methods and study activities

4 lessons a week for 12 weeks.
The workload for the student, expected to be 138 hours.
The didactic method is classroom teaching, assignments and homework.

Student Activity Model
According to the study activity model, the amount of work is distributed in:
Category 1: Initiated by the teacher with teacher and student participation: 42 hours - 30%
