Main purpose

The main purpose of the course to knowledge about measurement systems and working skills in planning, analysis and reporting experiments.
 
 

Knowledge

After the course, the student has knowledge of
* General characteristics of measurements systems
* Instrumentation
* Measurement systems with electrical signals
* Computerized data-acquisition systems 
* Discrete sampling of time-varying signals
* Statistical analysis of experimental data
* Experimental uncertainty analysis
* Measurement of:
 - Solid mechanical quantities
 - Pressure, temperature
 - Fluid systems

Skills

After the course, the student has the following skills:
* Identify fundamental error sources
* Read data sheets
* Perform parameter estimation
* Data analysis (eg. parameter estimation, regression, t-test and anova)
* Uncertainty analysis
* Plan and document an experiment
 

Competences

After the course, the student has competencies to find proper sensors and instruments, and to plan and document an experiment (Definition of problem, Design of test system, Construction, Data collection, Data analysis, Interpretation and Reporting)

Topics

Teaching methods and study activities

The total workload for the student is 136 hours.
The didactic method is classroom teaching, problem solving, homework and experimental projects.

Student Activity Model:
According to the Study Activity Model, the workload is divided as follows:

Category 1, Initiated by the lecturer with the participation of lecturer and students: 27 hours – 20%
Category 2: Initiated by lecturer with participation of students: 42 hours – 30 %
Category 3: Initiated by students with participation of students: 42 hours – 30 %
Category 4: Initiated by students with the participation of lecturer and students: 27 hours – 20%
