### Main purpose

The course aims to introduce students to linear algebra and basics of numerical programming in Matlab.

### Knowledge

The student will attain knowledge of basic linear algebra and statistics as well as scientific programming in the following areas:

* Matrix algebra

* Eigenvalues and eigenvectors

* Linear systems of ordinary differential equations (ODEs)

* Probability and conditional probability

* Mean and variance

* Binomial, poisson and normal distributions

* Data analysis in Matlab

* Logical expressions

* Branch and loop statements

* Numerical solution of ODEs

### Skills

After completion of the course the student must be able to:

* Perform matrix algebra

* Find eigenvalues and eigenvectors of small matrices

* Solve linear systems of ODEs

* Use Matlab to perform the above tasks and for plotting as well as simple data analysis

### Competences

Having completed the course the student will be able to apply knowledge and skills to:

* Formulate and solve linear problems in engineering using linear algebra analytically and numerically.

* Read and write simple scripts and functions in Matlab.

### Topics

### Teaching methods and study activities

Teaching consists of presentation of theory and solving exercises. Students are expected to read the relevant literature and solve exercises as preparation.

The course runs for 12 weeks with 4 lessons per week. The total work load for the student is expected to be 138 hours.

**Student Activity Model:**According to the Study Activity Model, the workload is divided as follows:

Category 1, Initiated by the lecturer with the participation of lecturer and students: 48 hours – 35%

Category 2: Initiated by lecturer with participation of students: 70 hours – 51 %

Category 3: Initiated by students with participation of students: 20 hours – 15 %

Category 4: Initiated by students with the participation of lecturer and students: 0 hours – 0%
