In the following, you can see how the Architectural Technology and Construction Management study programme is structured and what the content of each semester is.
1st semester: Residential building
At the 1st semester we work with a concrete, small scale residential building project in the sujects Communication and Collaboration, Production and Structural Design.
You will work with e.g.:
- The relationship between various construction technology issues
- Relevant communiation theories and methods of communicating professional issues.
- The basic theoretical and technical disciplines of the industry
- Mathmatical and building physics principles
- Basic statics, energy and installations
- Applied principles and tools for project management, documentation and communication
- Applied principles and tools for surveying, staking out and recording.
2nd semester: Building up to 2½ storey
At the 2nd semester we will work with a specific construction project of up to 2½ storey in the subjects Organisation and Business Understanding, Communication and Collaboration, Production, and Structural Design.
At this semester we will build on the skills and knowledge you gained at the 2nd semester.
In addition, we will work with:
- Relevant environmental, financial, technological, and social aspects of the production process
- Applied legislation, principles and methods in business and entrepreneurship
- Basic statutory rules and constractual relations
- Production concepts and methods applied in practice
- Digital building information models
- Theories, methods and tools for financial management
3rd semester: Industry and prefabrication
We will work with structural design of industrialised components in specific construction projects in the subjects Organisation and Business Understanding, Communication and Collaboration, Production, and Structural Design.
In addition, we will work with:
- The industrial production and execution methods.
- Industrial constructions, planning and management tools
- Understanding of technical and statistical principles
- Applied mathematical and physical calculation methods
- Principles for management of business economics
- Basic knowledge of contract law and right to compensation
- Possibilities, legal options and organisation in connection with entrepreneurship
4th semester: Multi-storey residential building over 3 storeys
We will work with a specific construction project of a residential building over 3 storeys in the subjects Communicaiton and Collaboration, Production and Structural Design.
In addition, we will work with:
- Complex production and construction methods
- Complex constructions, planning- and management tools, and reflektion of technical installations and statistical principles in the practice of the profession
- Scientific theoretical principles in the practice of the profession
5th semester: Renovation
We will work with planning and structural design of a specific renovation project in the subjects Production, Structural Design and Renovation.
6th semester: Internship
During your internship, you will experience some of the specific tasks and projects you might work with in the construction industry after graduation. At the same time, you will become aware of the connection between theory and practice. Before the internship, you will, with your host company, formulate a written agreement with a description of the tasks assigned to you during your internship.
You are responsible for finding an internship host yourself, but will be assigned to an internship counsellor from VIA. You are able to take your internship in Denmark or abroad.
7th semester: Specialisation and bachelor's project
At this semester, you will work on your speciality and your bachelor's project.
In your bachelor's project, you must demonstrate your knowledge and ability to reflect on professional practice and application of theory and method in relation to a problem closely related to practice.
You must display that you are able to balance function, construction, and form with time and finance in a construction project. You can chose to do your bachelor's project in collaboration with a company.
