Danish university colleges are universities of applied sciences and offer the majority of the country's professional bachelor degree programmes. VIA's programmes combine research-based teaching with practical training in public and private companies.

VIA has eight campusses in the Central Denmark Region and is headquartered in Aarhus.

At VIA we conduct annual ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting to measure and evaluate our work on sustainable development.

About VIA's work with sustainability

Handprint and footprint

VIA aims to lead the way in sustainable development and the green transition. To focus our efforts, we work with two concepts: footprint and handprint.


A footprint is the negative impact we leave on the planet when we use resources to run our organisation. We work to minimise this footprint, even though it can never be fully removed.


A handprint is the positive impact we create by educating students to contribute to sustainable development within the professions they are training for. Our ambition is to embed sustainable development in every programme in the way that makes the most sense for that specific field and profession.

Climate Action Plan (pdf)
