A typical exchange student programme consists of 3-4 courses and a project course giving a total of 30 ECTS points per semester. All of our courses are described in detail in the above mentioned curriculum.

    Project work

All exchange students carry out a project. Project work is a way of incorporating real-life challenges into study programmes. You will typically be working in teams of three to five where you gather data, analyse and solve a problem, most of the time in cooperation with a company.

The timetables are very dynamic, varying from semester to semester. Typically, a timetable will have one day free of lectures. During the semester, a course will have approx. 48 lectures (4 lectures a week). Three full weeks at the end of each semester are assigned to project work.

    Evaluation and exams

All subjects will be examined either during the course of study or at the end of the semester. Exams are both oral and written. Your performance will be assessed in several subjects by an examiner and a co-examiner, either external or internal.

  • VIA University College expects you to have completed part of your degree course at your home university. In most cases, this will be the first two years of a B.Sc.

You must bring a laptop to every class at VIA. Your computer must be able to run MS Office and simulation programs – it is advisable to have a WIFI connection and be able to run Windows 7 or above as well as having a min. of 8 GB RAM.

A large amount of software is available for free at VIA, so do not invest in any software before the semester starts.

Documentation of your current English language level

If English is not your first language, you will need to provide documentation of your English language level. VIA University College requires that you have an English level of B2 or higher (certificate is required) as you must be able to understand spoken English when following courses and be able to write assignments and reports in English.

As documentation, we accept confirmation of a B2 level from your home institution or one of the following internationally recognised language tests: TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS or the Cambridge ESOL test. For more information, please see:
