VIA Faculty of Education & Social Studies

We offer bachelor degree programmes in education, administration and social studies. Our programmes are closely linked to professional practice and build on research and development.

About the faculty

  • Profile

Our degree programmes build on the Danish tradition for pedagogy and education.

The methods and values underlying Danish pedagogy and education have been developed over more than a century within the framework of the Danish welfare state and culture.

VIA is Denmark’s largest educator of teachers and social educators. Our candidates work in primary and secondary schools as well as nurseries, day care centres, pre-schools, afterschool clubs and 24-hour service institutions.

We prepare students to work in welfare professions and with the weakest groups in society.

We develop and use new knowledge

Our faculty has four centres centres and a list of research programmes. Here, we develop and disseminate new knowledge for the benefit of professionals and educational programmes.

Our research focuses on the practice of professional. We work closely with public institutions, universities and other research institutions.

    Interprofessional cooperation

We cooperate with other programmes in VIA to teach our students how to work in interprofessional environments. Cooperation with other professions is important in order to support quality and innovation in welfare services.

    International perspective

We strive to have a global perspective on education.

We exchange teachers and students with international partners and have a large international network.

We prioritise international research and development.

Furthermore, we offer consultancy services and skills training to support clients and partners in developing staff and manage institutional change.

  • Academic partnerships

Partners around the world provide opportunities for students and faculty.

We have a strong focus on exchanging students and faculty and offer different types of exchange programmes.

Our international partners represent a great diversity in culture and content of educational programmes.

    Student exchange

Our students typically study abroad for a semester. They can also get internships lasting from 6 weeks to a semester.

We are currently building a short exchange programme, where students can go abroad from two to six weeks.

    Faculty exchange

Traditionally, our teachers go for week-long stays abroad at a partner institution.

We are working to develop a programme where VIA's teachers can be assigned to a partner university for a longer time, such as a semester, so they have time to engage in both educational and development activities.

    International study environment

Several of our educational programmes have international semester programmes in English. Both Danish and foreign students participate in these programmes.

We also offer customised programmes. This could be practical training - often from 2 weeks to 8 weeks.

We also invite foreign guest teachers to supplement our Danish faculty.
