”VIA in the strongest terms condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and we send our most heartfelt sympathies to the Ukrainian people, including our Ukrainian students, employees and partners.
As an educational institution, we follow the lines laid out by the Danish authorities. The Ministry of Higher Education and Science encourages institutions of higher learning to disband all research and innovation activities as well as exchanges with Russia and Belarus, and VIA has done so immediately.
At VIA, we have students from more than 45 different nations – including Ukraine, Russia and Belarus as well as neighbouring countries. As always, we treat all students and employees respectfully and equally – regardless of origin. This is a war instigated by a Russian assaulting force, it is not the war of the Russian people.
At VIA, protests against war and arguments for peace are always welcomed. It is uplifting to see, how students take co-responsibility and have strong urges to contribute to helping the victims of the war. We have always welcomed refugees at VIA, and we will continue to do so now.
Students can get help to handle the situation at our student counselling service, which has local representation with e.g. professional therapy at all of VIA’s campuses in the Central Denmark Region. We are also ready to help students who, in internships and other situations, may have to explain the war to children and young people, and our researchers with knowledge in the field are available to help.”
