English proficiency requirements

A sufficient level of English is required to attend VIA's English language study programmes.

All applicants with a foreign entry qualification will have to document English proficiency equivalent to a Danish B-level with a minimum weighted grade point average score of 2.0 on the Danish grading scale (min. 210 hours, 1 hour = 60 minutes during the final three years in Upper Secondary School). Use the verification form for this.

The grades from the applicant’s Upper Secondary School Certificate will be converted into Danish grades. Note, that the rules for conversions differ from each country, hence it is not possible to standardize the methods for this conversion.

In some countries both a possible exam result and the annual grade from the transcript of records for the last year of Upper Secondary School is used in the conversion, for other countries it is merely the annual grade from the transcript of records for the last year of Upper Secondary School that is used in the conversion.

Please note: In cases where applicants cannot meet the Danish B-level proficiency requirement or grade conversion is not possible, the applicant may provide other documentation. Please find an overview of accepted language test certificates below.

As documentation, we accept the following internationally recognized language tests: IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge ESOL tests.
