• Who is eligible for free tuition?

  It is determined in the Danish ministerial order when a foreign Student is eligible for free tuition paid by the Danish State. The following types of residence permits grants free tuition paid by the Danish State:

  • Residence permit laid down by the EU law including the EEA agreement as well as the transitional arrangement for British citizens residing in Denmark prior to the 31 December 2020 according to EU law on free movement, and their family members
  • Permanent residence permit issued in Denmark or a residence permit with the possibility for permanent residence - noted as “MMF. varigt ophold” on the front of the residence card
  • Temporary residence permit based on the Danish Aliens Act §7 subsection 1 or 2 or §8. subsection 1, and 2, 
  • Temporary residence permit based on the Danish Aliens Act § 9.1, or § 9 c. 1, on the grounds of family reunification to a non-EU/EEA citizen with a residence permit (§ 7, subsection 1 or 2, or § 8, subsection 1 or 2)
  • Residence permit based on the Danish Aliens Act §9m as the accompanying child of a non-EU/EEA parent holding a residence permit based on employment (§9a of the Danish Aliens Act)
  • Temporary residence permit for displaced persons from Ukraine (the Special Act)

   

• Who has to pay tuition?

  If you are not eligible for free tuition paid by the Danish State you must pay for the tuition fee yourself. This means that if you do not hold a residence permit that is part of the above listed criteria, then you are not eligible for free tuition.

• How to document your residence status?

  In order for us to determine whether you are eligible for free tuition paid by the Danish State you must upload your residence permit along with your application at optagelse.dk. The following must be uploaded:

  • Front and back of the residence permit
  • The accompanying letter - The decision from the Danish Authorities that is issued with your residence card
  • An application of extension of residence permit (if residence permit expires prior to study start)

  If the status of your residence permit changes during your studies, you must inform and document your new status in order for us to determine whether you are still eligible for free tuition paid by the Danish State.

  If the status changes during a semester and this means that you will be eligible for free tuition then you will not be eligible for free tuition till the following semester.

  If the status changes during a semester and this means that you will no longer be eligible for free tuition then you must pay for tuition fee yourself as of the following semester.

  If your parent´s residence permit no longer apply after §9 of the Danish Aliens Act you are still entitled to complete the programme. 

• How much is the tuition fee?

  The annual tuition fee for each programme is listed on the programme’s own web page, but you can get an overview of the tuition of all study programmes here. Further costs may also apply, and these costs vary from programme to programme. The prices are fixed for the official duration of your study programme. If you exceed the official duration of the study programme, the following semester payments will correspond to the tuition fee at that time.

  VIA University College reserves the right to change tuition fees every year in October or whenever conditions necessitate such changes.  If tuition fee is required, you will always be invoiced directly from VIA University College. No partners are entitled to charge fees on behalf of our institution.

• When is the deadline for paying tuition?

  Deadline for payment of tuition fee is:

  Summer intake: 15 May or 1 June (Animation programmes and Top-up in Design and Business)
