Social Programme

VIA Summer School offers a social programme alongside courses

VIA Summer School offers a social programme, which will consist of a combination of social and cultural events. We will ask you to sign up on arrival.

Please bear in mind this is for summer schools taking place in Aarhus. Courses in other locations will have another programme.

The activities in the social programme are included in the fee, you pay for the course. At some events food and drinks will be at students own expense. It will be described under each activity.

You can decide for yourself the extent to which you want to participate in these activities. Registration is necessary and a no-show fee can be charged.  

Changes may occur due to unforeseen circumstances.

Events in week 32 : 9 August - 15 August

  • We would like to welcome all summer school students to Aarhus and share a couple of hours with you. We will also take this opportunity to pass on some practical information. We hope you will join us at Campus C for this event and get to know the other summer school participants as well as the summer school team.

    You will also get to try some Danish specialities for dinner and hear more about the Danes and Danish culture during this afternoon.

  • 2-hour guided walking tour in downtown Aarhus. On this tour you will learn all you need to know about Aarhus in 2 hours.  You will discover the authentic Aarhus with a local guide.

    We will walk from Campus C through the city and see some of the main attractions from the outside and the cozy old streets of Aarhus. We will end up in the new harbour area, Aarhus Ø, where you can grab some dinner with you fellow summer school students, if you like.

  • Try food from all around the world and experience a lively Friday night with you fellow summer school students at Aarhus Street Food. Whether you would like to try something typically Danish, something Vietnamese, French or American. You can find it here in the old garage, which is now a big and charming food market in the middle of Aarhus. 

    You should pay for your own food and drinks

    Aarhus Street Food. Ny Banegårdsgade 46, 8000 Aarhus C. We meet at the entrance . If anyone would like to walk together from Campus, we will go together around 17.30.

  • We will meet at the entrance to the Queen's castle, Marselisborg Castle. From here we will walk around the castle grounds and visit Mindeparken, which is a big park just outside the castle with a beautiful view over the Bay of Aarhus. 

    We will visit the Deer Park just near by and try to feed the Sika and Fallow dear and enjoy the sorrounding woods nearby the water in Marselisskoven.

    We will end back in Mindeparken, where we will have a small picnic. 

    Please bring your own food and something to drink. We will make sure to bring snacks.

Events in week 33: 16 August - 20 August

  • The Old Town is an open-air town museum. In 1914 the museum opened as the world's first open-air museum of its kind, concentrating on town culture rather than village culture, and to this day it remains one of just a few top rated Danish museums outside Copenhagen, serving more than 400,000 visitors pr. year. Today the museum consists of 75 historical buildings collected from 20 townships in all parts of the country. This place is a living picture of life in Denmark in the last 300 years. 

    After the visit to the Old Town, we will walk through the Botanical Gardens in Aarhus. 

    The Botanical Garden is a beautiful place for a run or a stroll, and the park offers lots of experiences for everyone. The garden is situated in a hilly area. Here are extensive lawns with grand, impressive trees, and small, intimate rooms in the midst of the greenery. A stream runs through the entire garden, forms three lakes.

    We will bring sandwiches and something to drink for an early dinner in the park and maybe play some Danish garden games. Please bring a blanket and a sweater.

    We will meet in front of campus and walk to The Old Town.

  • With a total of 20,700 square metres distributed on ten storeys, ARoS is one of the largest art museums in Northern Europe. Each year, ARoS has about one million visitors, making it the most frequented art museum in Scandinavia.

    You will have the chance to browse through the different exhibitions on your own or together with your fellow summer school students, and enjoy the museum. You can also experience Aarhus through the colours of the rainbow in Olafur Eliasson’s famous Your Rainbow Panorama on top of the museum.

  • We would like to take the opportunity to say a proper farewell. We would like to invite you for an event at Campus C. Here you can celebrate the successful completion of your course and get a chance to say farewell to all your new friends from VIA Summer School.
