Meet Michaela from Canada who went to VIA Summer School

22 year old nursing student Michaela Forrester from Toronto, Canada attended the International Health: Welfare Technology and Dementia  summer school at VIA in Aarhus.

International Health: Welfare Technology and Dementia is a summer school programme aimed at all students in the healthcare field. The course presents how our healthcare technology system can help citizens with dementia better their overall well-being and quality of life. In addition, teaching includes theory as well as practise in the form of field trips where healthcare technology systems can be seen in action.

New perspectives

Michaela chose the International Health summer school at VIA, because she wanted to learn more about dementia and assistive devices, but also to learn more about the Danish healthcare system, which has some similarities to the Canadian equivalent, and bring new knowledge into her own nursing practise. She also enjoyed immersing herself in Danish culture through both classes, group work and the social programme.

At first, I was afraid, because I was only coming here with one other person. But, I think we are all in the same boat and just trying to make friends and have a good experience, so just do it!
