Who am I?
My name is Ole and I am originally from Germany. I study Climate and Supply Engineering because I wanna create an impact in terms of sustainability within the infrastructure sector and fight climate change.
Why Denmark?
During my previous education as electrician, I did an Erasmus exchange in Denmark. I really enjoyed the vibe - so the idea came up to study in English and in another country. With a mix of curiosity and challenging myself, I made the decision to go abroad and chose Denmark and VIA when I found this programme.
What was the biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge going abroad was to leave all my family and friends back home. I came in 2020 during the Corona pandemic, so it was hard for all of us new students to get the social life going – that made it quite hard in the beginning.
Be open minded and learn Danish Ole Tom Wörmer
Did you take an internship?
I will do my internship next semester in Aarhus at PlanEnergi – an engineering consultant company specialized in renewable energy systems. I already work there as a student worker and gain a lot of knowledge about energy planning and how to realize the energy transition to a climate friendly energy supply.
What is the best thing about living and studying in Denmark and at VIA?
For me, its very exciting to get integrated in another county – with another language and another culture. The atmosphere in general is very relaxed and one can meet many nice people.
My advice
Be open minded and learn Danish. Even though almost everyone speaks English, learning Danish makes life so much easier.
