Main purpose

This course provides elementary insight into the challenges presented by soil contamination in general.

Knowledge

Following the workshop, the student should be able to:
  • Describe background for contaminated site legislation
  • List different instances where soil contamination knowledge is required
  • Explain the elements of risk assessment
  • Illustrate the fate and transport of soil contaminants

Skills

Following the workshop, the student should be able to:
  • use sampling equipment in the field

  • Discuss Data Quality Objectives prior to sampling
  • Design a Sampling and Analysis Plan
  • Evaluate sources of errors

Teaching methods and study activities

One week of work for the student. Activities during the course are lectures, theory, fieldwork, exercises and self-study.

Examination

The course is evaluated on the basis of participation in the listed topics and reporting of individual activities. Required 80% participation to pass.
