Besides, Denmark is a great place to work within design and architecture, as the country is really at the forefront of development within these areas. Camilla Stadler Buschle
Why did you choose to study in Denmark?
In 2009, I was searching for exchange studies abroad and found out that Brazil and Denmark had available scholarships for non-EU students. I applied in the beginning of the year and in June 2009, I got accepted to the Architectural Technology and Construction Management programme at VIA in Horsens and moved there. After graduation at VIA, I took a master’s degree at Aalborg University.
The best thing about living and working in Denmark:
I am currently living in Copenhagen and I just have a major crush on this city. The lifestyle and the scale is something that makes me feel at home. Besides, Denmark is a great place to work within design and architecture, as the country is really at the forefront of development within these areas.
My job
I have previously worked for the world famous architectural company BIG and is currently employed at COBE Architects in Nordhavn, Copenhagen, a company that works a lot with design and architecture of public spaces and large scale urban planning. My main responsibilities are construction drawings, mediation between company and stakeholders, and design studies.
How I got my job
I got my current job through my network.
What I like about my job
My role bounces between design and construction which allows me to follow up the whole design process, while giving me challenges along the way. Besides, COBE has a nice work environment, inspiring people and great projects.
My advice
Be to be proactive and curious during your studies by engaging outside of your studies, for example by doing projects in collaboration with businesses and internships. Engage with other students and colleagues to create a network. And get to know the culture. These points will definitely help you if you want to continue working and living in the country.
My inspirations
There are many things that inspires me such as art, books and people. I like the subjectivity behind these elements and the stories they bring with them. I believe in trying to make a difference within both work and personal life - we should always try to do our best.
