Giacomo at his internship in Greenland
My Job
I work as a consultant engineer at WSP Denmark for the groundwater and soil pollution department. The projects in which I am involved focus on the establishment of new wellfields for drinking water treatment plants, and the design of the single boreholes. Such projects require a good collaboration between engineers, geophysicists, and geologists. Moreover, I am starting to get involved in the design and renovation of waterworks around Denmark.
In the future, I hope to be able to contribute to increasing the awareness of people on the importance of water and improve the water quality by finding new solutions to remove contaminants from water. Furthermore, I would like to visit developing countries and help to design water treatment systems.
How did you get your job?
During my studies, WSP Denmark offered me a position as a student worker. My professor gave them my contact, since he thought I would fit well in the company. At the end of my studies, WSP Denmark decided to offer me a full-time job.

Why did you choose to study and work in Denmark?
My decision to move to Denmark and study in English was based on my intentions to try something new and start a more adventurous journey. Furthermore, the topics of the degree were interesting and different compared to other engineering programmes. The possibility of having an internship during my studies has been an important factor for the decision to study at VIA.
What is the best thing about living and working in Denmark?
Friendly and helpful colleagues reflect an optimal environment to achieve important goals and thrive in a company. The best thing I experienced while working for WSP, is the communication between colleagues and departments.
Even though the weather can be challenging to some foreigners, Denmark has a well-structured and organised society. The government always offers good possibilities for students and employees to help them achieve their goals.
My advice
If you are considering studying and working in Denmark, you will learn a new culture and traditions, this also means the relationship between student-professor or employee-chief, which is based on equality. There will be many challenges, especially with the language, which is a must if you would like to work in the country.
