Keeping Democracy Strong - Staff and student week

In a world where democracies are increasingly under pressure, we must ensure that democracy remains at the very heart of pedagogical and social work. Therefore, VIA University College's department of Social Education invites staff and students from partner universities to join us for a week to explore the theme: 

Keeping Democracy Strong Through Pedagogical and Social Work: Democratic Resilience in Contemporary Europe.

What to expect

As a visiting lecturer, you will have the opportunity to:

• Share your expertise with students and colleagues from across Europe.
• Explore new perspectives on how to preserve and strengthen democracy within social education and social and pedagogical work.
• Expand your professional network by meeting and making friends.
• Experience the Danish spring and engage in fun and enrichening activities

Workshops and lectures

As a participant, you are expected to deliver two workshops and one lecture during the week. This complies with the Erasmus+ requirement for the number of teaching hours. Co-teaching with a colleague is possible. Requirements for workshops and lecures:

• A workshop (2 hours including a break) includes an introduction to the topic, followed by interactive, hands-on activities which engage the students in learning by doing. Maximum number of participants: 30 students. 
• A lecture (1 hour) is primarily presentation-based but can also include interactive elements. Some lectures take place in our auditorium, allowing for a larger audience. However, the auditorium setting does not support physical activities and movement like a regular classroom. 

The topics of your two workshops can vary or be the same. However, each session should be treated as an independent event - one workshop should not be considered a continuation of another. 

Student participation

Participating institutions are also able to bring students. Students are expected to participate actively in lectures and workshops and to have an open mind towards meeting other international students. They are also expected to communicate in English during all activities. Note that students will be charged a EUR 75 participation fee which covers daily lunch and the extracurricular activities.
