Aims and learning outcome

The programme includes both practical and theoretical aspects.

At the end of the programme, students will exhibit new capabilities in working with nature, health and democracy in social education circumstances.

Learning outcome, knowledge, skills and competences at the three different modules at exchange programme are as follows:

Module 1: Social education, nature and outdoor activities

  • Social education and the social educator’s work as learning, development, upbringing, cultural formation, care and socialization
  • Views of human nature and understanding of democracy in social education work as in society in general
  • Social education work seen in the context of the Nordic Welfare State
  • Theory and practice on active citizenship and participation of children and teenagers
  • The nature and style of the work carried out at the placement facility as well as knowledge of the physical environment and social climate of the workplace
  • The people attending the facility and their particular needs as a group
  • How to observe, describe and analyse social education work in practice
  • How to plan and carry out social education work in relation to a specific group of people

Skills in:

  • Analytical and critical reflections on social education and social education work
  • Understanding the significance for the connection between social education work and the democratic society in general

Module 2: Internships

  • The nature and style of the work carried out at the internships as well as knowledge of the physical environment and social climate of the workplace
  • The people attending the facility and their particular needs as a group
  • How to observe, describe and analyse social education work in practice
  • How to plan and carry out social education work in relation to a specific group of people

Competencies in:

  • Developing practical and theoretical know-how about social education work
  • Planning, carrying out and evaluating social education activities

Module 3: Collaborative creation and citizenship

  • The student exhibits knowledge about the welfare society and the historical context of social education work.
  • The student can discuss and reflect on how social education environments and activities can develop and stimulate citizenship and democratic education, and on this basis organise and implement social education activities in collaboration with relevant partners
  • The student can analyze collaborative creation across professions, institutions and organizations in the social education field and can reflect, assess, and add perspective to own project within this framework.
