Application procedures for VIA Summer School

Students meeting the admission requirements are accepted on a first-come first-served basis.

NOTE: All courses offered by VIA Summer School are dependent upon a minimum number of participants. Otherwise VIA University College reserves the right to cancel the course. Accepted applicants will be informed as soon as possible after the deadline 1 April 2024. Please do not enter any cost-commitments (such as visa applications, travel etc.) before you have received written confirmation from VIA Summer School that the course will be arranged, since VIA has no possibility to reimburse costs when courses are cancelled.

How to apply - a step-by-step guide

  • There are differences on the procedure and documentation needed depending on the type of student you are

    When you fill in the application you will be asked about your current studies and must choose between five options in the section 'academic information'. We are asking about your student type, and we will explain the different types here, to make it easier for you to find the answer that applies to you. We will also explain the requirements and documentation needed for the different student types. You must choose the type that applied at the time of the summer school, not what applies at the time of application.

    I already graduated from a Higher Educational institution

    • You have graduated as a bachelor or master student from a higher educational institution and are currently unemployed or working as a professional. This is not relevant if you finished your bachelor and is currently studying a master degree - then you must choose one of the other options applying to you.
    • You must meet the prerequisites for the specific course as well as the prerequisites for admission into the professional bachelor degree programme offering the course.

    Documentation

    • Your upper secondary school leaving certificate in English or Danish
    • Transcript of courses taken as part of your studies in English or Danish
    • Your degree certificate in English or Danish

    I am a full-time degree student at VIA University College

    • You are enrolled in a full-time degree programme at VIA University College. This applies to all students at VIA regardless of campus and study programme.
    • You must meet the prerequisites for the course and be enrolled at VIA at the time of the summer school.

    Documentation

    • Transcript of records or graduation certificate showing passed and current courses in English or Danish
    • If you wish to be eligible for a tuition fee waiver, you must also upload a pre-approval of the course or other documentation stating you are able to transfer the credits back onto your own study programme.

    I am currently enrolled in High School (+18)

    • You are currently in High School finishing your upper secondary education.
    • You must be over the age of 18 to apply for VIA Summer School. 
    • You must meet the prerequisites for the course

    Documentation

    • Your secondary school leaving certificate (If you have yet to sit your secondary school exam, please contact us, and we will assess whether you are eligible for the course you wish to apply for)
    • Transcript(s) of courses both passed and current as part of your upper secondary programme 

    I am currently studying at a Higher Educational Institution outside Denmark

    • You are enrolled in a full-time degree programme at a higher educational institution outside Denmark either at bachelor or master level. 
    • You must meet the prerequisites for the course and be enrolled in a full-time degree at a higher educational institution at the time of the summer school.
    • You will be asked if you are from a partner institution of VIA University College - if you do not know please contact your international office in your home institution.
    • If you are from a partner institution and you wish to be eligible for a tuition fee waiver, you must also upload a pre-approval of the course or other documentation stating you are able to transfer the credits back onto your own study programme.

    Documentation

    • Transcript of records or graduation certificate showing passed and current courses in English or Danish.

    I am currently studying at another Danish Higher Educational Institution

    • You are enrolled in a full-time degree programme at another Danish higher educational institution either at bachelor or master level.
    • You must meet the prerequisites for the course and be enrolled in a full-time degree at a Danish higher educational institution at the time of the summer school.

    Documentation

    • Transcript of records or graduation certificate showing passed and current courses in English or Danish
    • If you wish to be eligible for a tuition fee waiver, you must also upload a pre-approval of the course or other documentation stating you are able to transfer the credits back onto your own study programme.

    If you have settled what kind of applicant you are and the documentation needed, you are ready for the next step. The second step is to make yourself familiar with the application process and deadlines.

  • All students must be fluent in English

    Please note that VIA University College requires students attending VIA Summer School to be fluent in English. All summer schools requires active participation both orally and in writing. This means students must have an English level of at least B2 (CEFR scale) upon arrival.

    In the event that the English language skills do not meet the requirements of VIA University College, or the language skills stated in this application, the student may be excluded from classes and final exams.

    Other standards approximately equivalent to B2:

    IELTS - An average band score of 6.0

    TOEFL iBT - 80

    TOEFL PBT - 55

    Cambridge ESOL tests - CAE, C grade

    TOEIC (speaking and writing) - 700

  • You must use our online application system to submit your application for VIA Summer School

    Once you have found out which student type applies to you, and have found the documentation needed you are ready to submit your application in our application system.

    The system will guide you through the process. The first step is to register yourself. You need to do so in the section called registration. You need to put in your first name (given name), last name (family name) and your email address. This is the email address the system will use, and it is important you remember it.

    You will receive an email asking you to activate your account and choose a password. Please follow the instructions in the email. Please remember the password must meet the following:

    It should contain at least one digit (number).
    It should contain at least 8 characters.
    It should contain at least one special character (for example: ! / ?).

    Once you have activated your account and chosen a password you can start the application. You can exit the application and continue at another time - just remember your email and password. If you at any point have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    When we have registered your application we will process it and asses if you are qualified for admission or if we need anything else from you (e.g. a recent transcript).

    The selection criteria for VIA Summer School courses are first-come, first-served. If you are qualified for the course you have applied for, you will receive your acceptance email as soon as possible after we have assessed your application. Please expect a processing period of approximately 2-4 weeks. If you are a fee-paying student you will only receive your formal acceptance email after you have paid the fee for the course.

  • If you are a fee-paying student, you must pay the tuition fee within two weeks of receiving the preliminary admission email.

    Fee-paying students

    Once we have processed your application and accepted you for VIA Summer School, you will receive a preliminary admission email from us. You will have two weeks to pay the tuition fee. Once we have received the fee in our system we will send out a formal admission email to you. 

    If you are a non fee-paying student, you will receive the formal admission email as soon as we have processed your application, if we accept you as a student for VIA Summer School.

    Social programme

    To attend our social programme, all summer school students in Aarhus need to buy an access card of  €30. Read more about the social programme and what the card gives access to here.

    You will receive a payment link when you sign up for the summer school. You have the right to withdraw the transaction within 14 days from the day of purchasement. 

    Visa

    It is your own responsibility to check with the relevant authorities whether you need a visa to enter Denmark. In case you do need a visa, please let us know after being accepted for a course, and we will issue an invitation letter as well as an official acceptance letter. This will only happen after the payment of the course has been done. In case you do not manage to obtain a visa, we only reimburse the course fee, if you cancel your participation at least 6 weeks in advance. In this case, we will reimburse the course fee.

  • After finishing the application process and being accepted for VIA Summer School you can start preparing your amazing summer experience.

    In order to prepare your stay to be as good as possible please visit our practical information page and read everything you need to know about what to do before you arrive, on arrival and during your stay. In the spring we will also create a Facebook group for VIA Summer School 2024 and all accepted students will receive a direct link to the group. The group will be a great way for you to connect with classmates and fellow-students, start planning the first cup of coffee or beer and for us to share tips and ideas about Aarhus and your stay with us.
