Real-world clients, mixed-reality stories
New Screens Experience is a hands-on semester dedicated to exploring transmedia storytelling and new screens technology. Through learning-by-doing, students apply theory to practical projects for clients such as digital agencies, artists, museums and companies. Students learn how to create characters, story worlds and interactive experiences that expand and unfold across several platforms using new screens technology and methods like augmented reality, projection mapping, interactive spaces and gamification. Film – in any shape or form – is incorporated into each project. The goal is to learn how to create unified, entertaining experiences where each platform and technology makes a unique contribution to a transmedia story world.
Build a new screens portfolio
Classes are taught by associate professors as well as experienced professionals from the digital visual industries. The entire programme is based on learning-by-doing, so lectures are short, and theory is applied to practical projects from day one. Students work in teams and receive appreciative feedback on their crea-tive performance on a near-daily basis. At the end of the programme, each student will have an extensive new screens portfolio and an in-depth understanding of team-based creative processes.
Enjoy a creative classroom
Students attend all lectures and work on their projects in the programme’s very own creative workshop classroom. 24-hour access to first-rate professional equipment enables students to realise their creative visions. The workshop has digital production facilities, a workspace as well as a kitchen and a lounge area that makes for a warm and friendly atmosphere. As the semester progresses, photos, drawings, mood boards, props and other materials that the class is working on/with come to adorn the workshop.
A series of lectures and hands-on workshops lead up to the programme’s final student project, where filmic and transmedia storytelling transcends the screen and expands into the physical world: a real life experience using technologies such as film, projection mapping, game design and XR [AR, VR, MR] to immerse guests in a hybrid, transmedia story.
