At the Architectural Technology and Construction Management study programme, you will learn to design, plan, execute and manage construction projects. We work with both small and large projects from start to finish.
You will gain project management skills and experience in using digital tools in the construction process.
During the education, you will get to influence the learnings you achieve to match your interests and talents.
Teaching methods
The teaching philosophy at VIA Architectural Technology & Construction Management involves a combination of theory lessons, assignments and project work. You will primarily learn theory through practical assignments and case studies.
Programme structure
1st semester: Building plot and 1-2 storey dwelling
Your first semester project will be a "single-family house," covering all aspects relating to situating the house on a plot, specifying and arranging rooms, selecting materials, selecting building services, costing, time management etc.
2nd semester: Land plot and single-family house
The project methodology in the second semester will be applied to the following themes: Industry and Technology, International Project Week and Designing a Two-storey Single-family House with a Basement.
3rd semester: Industrialised building design
The overall theme in the 3rd semester is "Industrialised building design". As with the previous two semesters, the predominant work method will be project work - carried out as group work whenever possible.
4th semester: Multi-storey buildings
The overall theme in the 4th semester is “Multi-storey buildings with dwellings and commercial units”. This theme will define the framework for the projects to be carried out.
Please note: If you would like to pursue an AP Degree in Construction Technology, you can do a final project and dissertation in your 4th semester.
5th semester: Refurbishment and conversion
The main theme of the 5th semester is “Refurbishment and conversion”. As part of this theme, you will learn how to handle substantial changes in the function of a building, as well as construction principles and material composition for the conversion of an existing building, including civil engineering works. In addition, you choose your specialty with focus on either Architectural Technology or Construction Management
6th semester: Internship
During this semester, you will take part in an internship in a company. The internship is an important part of your education where you will test your knowledge and skills in practice.
7th semester: Bachelor Project
The Bachelor Project should reflect your skills within fields such as building, planning and management, structural design and building services. Your project should also reflect your ability to combine the various disciplines you have learned during your programme. The final result should appear as clearly-defined, "total project".
